Our History
Bellshill Curling Club was founded in 1872 by a group of local enthusiasts keen to bring the roaring game to the Lanarkshire community. For over 150 years the club has been a fixture of Scottish curling.
The early years
In the late 19th century, members played on outdoor ponds whenever the weather permitted — a far cry from today's indoor ice. Match reports from the era describe enthusiastic crowds and fiercely contested bonspiels against neighbouring villages.
Moving indoors
With the arrival of indoor ice in central Scotland, the club moved its home matches to a dedicated rink, allowing a full season of play regardless of the weather. This change opened the sport up to many more members and helped the club grow.
Modern day
Today we field teams in regional leagues and host friendly matches throughout the season. Our membership spans all ages and abilities, and we run regular taster sessions for newcomers.
